Grease Needle

Typical grease needle will have a zerk fitting on one end to work with almost any grease gun. This makes it easy to use two grease guns to install 75% Swepco grease and 25% Belray grease, as often recommended by many off-road enthusiasts.

These grease needles make it very easy to get grease in all tight areas of the CV, packing it thoroughly without having to touch the grease.  Be careful with the needle, they can be sharp.

These needles are usually available at a good auto parts stores such as NAPA, Auto Zone and Pep Boys.  Print this page and take it with you in case you need to ask someone where they are located.

If you use Bates Boots on your CVs, allowing you to slip off the CV boot without loosening the CV bolts, these grease needles can make it quick a easy to squirt a little extra grease into the CV joint mid-season to insure the joint doesn’t get dry with high usage.

Although the universal zerk fitting make it easy to use from one gun to another, it can be a problem keeping it attached during use.  There are two ways to help prevent detachment.

1.  Use duct tape.  After installing the zerk into the gun hose, wrap it with tape.  Make sure the surfaces aren’t greasy.

2.  Remove the zerk fitting and screw the needle hose onto the gun hose.
